Enyimba 2-1 Sunshine Stars: Anaemena reminds us of Udoji

Chinatu Jon

Good morning everyone,

It is a good view from the top. Everything looks ok from the top but getting there isn’t as easy as it appears. Staying there is even more tedious and tasking.

We managed to see off hard fighting Sunshine Stars 2-1 on a wet evening with Udoji honored and the heavens just couldn’t hold its tears, mourning with us, the League and the Nigeria football community on such a colossal loss.
Sunshine Stars came with their stubborn self, looking to use their reggae and to spoil our blues and try to get their first positive headline in recent weeks. Ifeanyi Anaemena had to relive the kind of performance that reminds us of Chinedu Udoji.

Aigbogun 2.0 opted for Dauda, Francis, Ojo, Anaemena, Ogbonnaya, Tofic, Oladapo, Abalogu, Dimgba, Chukwude and Okonkwo in a very attacking minded 4-2-3-1 formation which almost paid of just over 10 minutes into the game when Chukwude got onto an Okonkwo pass to put us ahead.

Typical of Sunshine Stars and some Duke Udi led teams, they decided to get better and with better performances came respite for them. An Adeniyi shot deflected off Alimi to beat Dauda and put the hard fighting visitors back into the game.

The gaffer tried to play with guns all out and blazing and he even had to bring in returnee, Ibenegbu, to help the team. This is the experienced midfielder’s first game of the season and it was just destined to end well when Anaemena rose highest to put the ball far behind Ocheje to restore our lead with 20 minutes left on the clock. Such performance is associated with the late Chinedu Udoji who led the team from the back and scores to win us games whenever he had to.

We had to fight very hard to protect the lead and the 3 points it comes with which was just enough to put us joint top with Kano Pillars but behind the Kano club who have a healthier goal difference.

It was nice to see Ibenegbu play again and we will be expecting to see Mfon Udoh return to bolster our attack and maybe solve our goal scoring problems which has been a major source of worry this season.

Unbeaten in 7 games, 1 defeat in 10, never a bad result but lots of room for improvement.

Back tomorrow,
