One of the most difficult times to write is when one feels very disappointed, especially if the object of disappointment is the main subject.
Yesterday evening, We lost 2-0 to our hosts, Katsina United, at the Mohammed Dikko stadium. It was a return to forget for former Katsina United captain, Nasiru Sani who made his debut. There were starts for Olayinka Onoalapo and Ugochukwu Leonard, Dare Ojo also returned to the starting XI as a 25th minute strike from Martins Usule from a rebound off the wall, and a 65th minute 25 yard pile driver from Usman Barau seemed just enough to see us off.
Just as our games have been this season, Wasiu Alalade kept running at opposing defenders but nothing came out of any of those impressive runs. Well, this time, he tried a volley in the first half which was comfortably saved by the Katsina United goalkeeper. Even when Stephen Chukwude was introduced into the fray, the deed had been done and our opponents were already crusiing home to victory.
Aigbogun 2.0 is still searching for his first win. He might be excused if one is to consider that he has played Lobi away from home and been in an Oriental Derby but came out undefeated, only losing this fixture but a quick look at the young NPFL table will send any fan into panic. 19th! That’s our lowest standing in quite some time. This is actually our worst start in 17 years.
The team returns to Calabar to tackle Nasarawa United in a must win home game this Wednesday before travelling to neighboring Port Harcourt to face a difficult Rivers United side. It is high time we start making our chances count.
It seems difficult but I think if we fail this season, we are inexcusable. We need to jump out of the doldrums and return to where we should be.
Back tomorrow and expect more rants from here.
