The doors are closing, we are running out of excuses

Good morning Everyone, we’ve been on a 3 day Sabbatical. Waking up daily and not bothering about what to share of our beloved club. Twas fun while it lasted and honestly I can’t help but admit I’ve asked myself questions in these past couple of days if I shouldn’t move on. Walk away. Leave the club to whatever it wants to do. More of that in the days ahead.

Onto Enyimba matters now. We sat out our games this weekend cos our proposed opponents had Continental tasks. So while others puffed and huffed, we sat at home scrolling through our phones and there were quite some interesting results. Akwa United got a draw in Gombe. Shooting in Katsina and Lobi got a point in Sagamu.

In fact El-Kanemi Warriors’ Ladan Bosso was in Umuahia to haunt his former employers. He got all three points adding to the increasing list of teams who have now won away from home this season. Guess who isn’t on the list yet? OK, I’m not throwing stones or complaining, I’m just pointing out that while we have made excuses of ‘away games’, there teams currently punching above the weight.

The point of telling this tale is just to remind us what we already know. The dyke has been raised yet again. Just home wins and limp performances away from home isn’t enough anymore. We’ve hidden behind biased referee performances and long traveled distances. We’ve tried to defend the team the way we can. But truth is, other teams are getting results away from home, it’s about time we honestly evaluated ourselves.

If our target this season is to win the League or to get into one of those Continental places they we must stop giving excuses for conceding miserably away from home. It’s time to actually go away from home and attacked. Create decent chances and scored from them. Create decent chances better than just hoping on Chima Akas’ free kicks.

Our defenders must prove their worth and our midfielders must look like they actually are some good. Our strikers would have to earn their money. It’s about time we actually proved we are more than just a name from the past. I’m not trying to be all hard and negative about our club, I’m just saying, it’s about time we became realistic about what we are doing now and where we plan to be heading to.

In other news though, FC Ifeanyiubah and Wikki Tourists ended their Continental Challenge in one Sunday evening. Last season it was just one on the opening round, this time both of them crashed out. It’s a testament to how low our football has fallen. Congratulations though to Rivers United and Rangers who are through to face Al Merrikh and Zamalek in the next round.

Back tomorrow Guys,
