Good morning Guys, it’s midweek already and guess what, 2017 is already 11 days old. In another 20 days, January would be over. It does look like this year would end a lot faster than the previous years :). It’s all in the mind isn’t it? But it does look like things are on fast forward.
Anyway yesterday we did play Rivers United in what is expected to be our last tune up game before the season starts. We couldn’t get someone at the venue in time hence there wasn’t any live updates but we learnt at the end of the 90 that of the two teams, none could breach the other’s defence. It ended 0-0 at full-time.
There’s some positive in that despite the fact that we couldn’t score, we didn’t let in any goal either. It appeared it was a game of two halves were although they were all over us in the first, we retaliated in the second half. Today’s blog takes a different outlook in that we just have live updates from that game to share here. The point of course is for you to feel the performance.
3′ We almost make an early breakthrough but Ogbugh can’t reach Sakin’s cross from the right
5′ Enyimba win a free kick 25 yards out but Ikechukwu Ibenegbu’s effort is headed out by Austine
10′ Enyimba 0-0 Rivers United
11′ Lukman Mohammed strikes a snap shot from the edge of the Enyimba box but the effort goes wide
18′ Exhilarating team move by Enyimba which involved five players but Austin’s reads the danger and saves our blushes
19′ We Storm down the other end and almost take the lead after Lukman and Nzube combine delightfully… Atoloma arrives from deep but strikes his 25 yarder into orbit
25′ Ifegwu Ojukwu hammers a 25 yard free kick over the crossbar after Nweke was penalized for a rather soft challenge on Joseph Osadiaye
27′ We win a free kick in a promising position after Sakin is bundled off the ball
27′ Nzube delivers the set piece…Ogbugh collects nicely with his chest in the six yard box but flag is quickly up for offside
34′ Yellow card! Norbert Egbeta is cautioned for a terrible challenge on Mohammed.
Enyimba now relying on unconventional challenges as we tighten the screw
35′ What a miss! Nzube misses an open goal
36′ Osadiaye fires a rocket from 30 yards but Rotimi collects like its a pack of snacks
38′ We open up Enyimba’s rear guard with some outrageous bit of passing.
We are playing like Barcelona and no one is exaggerating here!
40′ Ogbugh misses two glorious chances within a minute of each other.
44′ Enyimba almost steal the lead against the run of play as Ojukwu beats Ayo for pace, reading Mfon’s pass to perfection.
The former 3SC man snatches at his shot and a relieved Rotimi performs a routine save
45′ HT: Enyimba 0-0 Rivers United
46′ Second half commences
47′ Mfon Udoh! What a footballer! He spins on a sixpence after receiving Ibenegbu’s pass with deftness. He shoots just wide off Rotimi’s far post.
51′ Its all Enyimba now.
They are tearing us to pieces at this point.
Ibenegbu’s free kick goes wide
52′ How in Pete’s name did Enyimba not score there? Ibrahim Mustapha with Yakubu Aiyegbeni-esque miss!
Udoh peels past his marker (Doumbia) and crosses to Mustapha who manages to head wide from two yards with a gaping goal at his mercy.
54′ Eseosa Igbinoba smacks a half volley off target from the edge of the box following good work from Sakin who guided a cushioned header towards the path of the former Nasarawa United man
56′ Yellow Card! Eseosa goes into the book.
Its deserved but ref seemed to overlook an earlier challenge by Osadiaye on Sakin.
Still, its pretty silly to seek personal retribution in any circumstances
60′ Enyimba come close through Ibenegbu but Rotimi is equal to the task
62′ We almost take a deserved lead but Mohammed is denied by a last ditch clearance
63′ Substitution: Mfon Udoh is off and Omotayo Adebogun takes his place
65′ SUBSTITUTION: Weli for Nzube and Asamoah for Sakin
67′ SUBSTITUTION: Emotional one, this….Femi Thomas replaces the legend, Sunday Rotimi.
Femi played for Enyimba last season
71′ Enyimba 0-0 Rivers United
75′ SUBSTITUTION: Maduabuchi has replaced Ogbugh
76′ Ayo denies Enyimba a certain goal by producing some last ditch defending right out of the top drawer
78′ Enyimba come close again with an even better opening but Osadiaye somehow manages to fluff his lines from close range
Stephen Chukwude has been a thorn in our flesh since he came on ten minutes ago.
83′ SUBSTITUTION; Guy replaces Mohammed
86′ We are hanging on for dear life as Enyimba launch wave after wave of attacks
88′ Enyimba 0-0 Rivers United.
Will there be a late winner….?
90′ Nothing to separate both sides…..it’s now up to the referee’s discretion now….and it will be all over here.
FT: Enyimba 0-0 Rivers United
