Sudan link: A case for Mfon Udoh

Good morning everyone!

Yesterday’s blog produced some intense feedback and it is essential to remind everyone that all we shared was based on whispers making rounds all over the place. The official channels won’t comment on any speculations as won’t the player himself but it would be wrong outrightly if we here on the blog don’t talk about it.

You could see the blog as some kind of ‘joint’ where people sit down to rant and argue over bottles of ‘drink of your choice’ and the complimentary ‘protein’ with Enyimba games and performances as the subject matter. We air our views, voice our concerns. It doesn’t mean what we’d say would influence things in any way.

So we gather again today for another round of drinks and ‘protein’ while looking at a piece of news I saw online. I’ve not edited the piece. I’ll just drop it as I saw it. Below.

Enyimba CEO Says Club Will Not Block Mfon Udoh Proposed Move To Al Merreikh

Published: November 02, 2016

Enyimba supremo Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu has refused to deny reports linking Nigeria international Mfon Udoh with a possible move to Sudanese Premier League club Al Merreikh.

It is known that many clubs in North Africa are looking to sign the beautiful bride, including Al Ahly, Zamalek and CS Sfaxien, after netting nine goals in the CAF Champions League to emerge as the top scorer.

“If they have invited him, Enyimba will not stop him from joining Al Merreikh, he is free to go, ” Anyansi-Agwu replied when asked if talks have taken place between Al Merreikh and Enyimba.

“Let him go there first. We don’t want to discuss it in the newspapers, it will send a wrong impression. ”, making reference to Sudanese newspapers, has reported that Mfon Udoh is expected to arrive in Sudan in the coming days to complete the transfer.

Enyimba have an excellent relationship with Al Merreikh and sold their former attacker Stephen Worgu to the club for a big transfer fee back in 2008.

In other words, the piece above is fueling speculations that striker Mfon Udoh looks on his way out of the club. Here are my views to that.

First and foremost, I think Mfon Udoh more than deserves to leave the club. Why? It’s simple. Has Enyimba ‘enjoyed’ him more today than they did three seasons ago? Answer for yourself. His quality is undoubted. Look, if you saw that his record breaking season you’d know one more year at the club won’t produce that Mfon Udoh again.

Would Mfon Udoh have fetched Enyimba more then than he would now? Beyond a doubt. And guess what, the longer he’s here, the lesser he would fetch the club. It’s only right for the club to let him go now.

Secondly, I think Mfon Udoh needs a new environment. If he remains here and paid the whole world and a half, that 2013/2014 Season Mfon Udoh won’t return. His quality is undoubted- he’s one of the best strikers in the country but this NPFL environment can’t showcase the best of him anymore. So it’s only right he gets on his way.

When was the last time Mfon Udoh was given a Super Eagles call up? I mean this lad didn’t get a look in for the NPFL Spain trip not even the last CHAN. He needs to leave these shores. I believe he will reinvent himself and he will be good enough to contribute to the National team. There basically isn’t any sane reason why Mfon shouldn’t make this move.

OK, you’d ask, is Sudan the new Europe? No its not but compare both Leagues. One is better organized than the other. I think it would be the springboard for him to become the world beater we all know he is. There will be a lot more Mfon Udohs in the future. In fact I believe holding onto this one is the one thing preventing us from finding the others. It’s only good for club and player that this move happens. Now.

There still isn’t any public information on the new gaffer or the players coming or leaving. May God help us all.

The blog would take a little break from tomorrow. My late Dad’s burial is scheduled for next Thursday and I’m already in the villa for the preparations. So we’d take a little break and get that out of the way. Pray everything works out nicely for our club. Stay safe everyone!
