Match Preview: Lobi Stars vs Enyimba

Good morning All,

This Match Day pits us against Lobi Stars,  a side that only a year ago were odds on to go on relegation. They survived, miraculously so and having installed Godwin Uwa as head coach,  has been one of the most consistent sides in the League. Consistent in that, in addition to an impregnable home front, they do show some fight away too.

Lobi was one of the first sides to get an away win this season when they ‘flew’ to Ibadan and Shooting Stars right in front of a packed Lekan Salami. Mirror that with how they started the previous campaign, nearly going a whole first half of the season winless. Some managers have the midas touch.

We played them earlier this season in Umuahia. In a game where we somehow conspired to concede two goals at home. It could have been worse, Joshua Enaholo and his missing-in-action defenders saved twice by the assistant referee’s flag.  2-2 it ended but in all honesty, it could have been lot worse.

They’ve shown a strength about them, a cohesion and good balance and in Kingsley Eduwo and Tony Okpotu (If he’s still there) they have strikers that know the route to goal. In goal, Okiemute Odah, the ex Warri Wolves goaltender has been very consistent for them.

Like us, they did have a decent mid-week, while we got a point in Warri, they did what only few teams have attempted this season, snatching a point in Bauchi. So you have a side bereft of anything but confidence. Tag them high and flying and you’re not in error.

We on the other hand are coming from a decent run of results. The Sundowns game revealed to us that not only do we have some quality in this team, it also told us that we can mount a good finish to this League campaign. As we saw vs Wolves, the players are beginning to trust each other the more and the team spirit is good.

It’s been impossible predicting lineups this season but most likely it would be Thankgod Ikeh and Emmanuel Anyanwu at the heart of our defence. Uche John and Chima Akas will probably get the nods at the fullback positions. That’s all the call I can make right now, so I don’t get an F9 with my predictions yet again.

We have played at the Aper Aku earlier this season but that doesn’t mean we have an easy tie on our hands. The Aper Aku looks impregnable but Ikorodu United left there with a point. In other words, it is possible, it can be done. Think of it this way, if we can get all three points today, then we know we just hurled ourselves into the thick of the title race.

Like we say here on the blog,  if you don’t think you can then you’ve lost even before the first whistle.

Let’s trust the boys believe. Updates available on @LMCNPFL and most likely @Enyimbafc

Back tomorrow with good news hopefully
