Champions League hopes and All Star tour.

Good morning Guys.

Another week comes to an end, a truly eventful week for us.

We started off with a defeat in Jos then made amends with a Federation Cup win against Rivers United. About that time too Mamelodi Sundowns had handed our CAF Champions League destiny back in our hands. And finally, yesterday, news emerged that quite a number of our lads made the final cut for the NPFL Spain tour.

The CAF Champions League drama is one we barely touched on the blog because well, it was overtaken by seemingly more important things. Twas on Wednesday night I believe when Mamelodi Sundowns completed the double over Zamalek of Egypt. Beating them 1-0 in South Africa.

For a side that only narrowly beat us 2-1 but trounced Zamalek home and away, it makes that defeat in Port Harcourt even more painful because they are hardly a fantastic side. It means that somehow our players just haven’t given their best by way of staying focused. Look if you are a professional footballer, you have to act that way.

Time after time, we hammer on this blog on the need to stay focused and professional on your career. No one says not to have fun but you must not rob Peter to pay Paul. Staying focused and disciplined ought to be the most important thing your career needs. I know I’m digressing but we can’t say this enough.

So Sundowns, a side we believed at the draws would be the whipping boys, are well on their way to emerging top of the group. Astonishing stuff.  In my opinion and If we are honest with ourselves, we deserved to perform better than we actually did.

Now we have the impossible on our hands. We have to beat or get a draw against Zamalek in Egypt then beat Sundowns here in Port Harcourt. It’s the only route that will ensure our progress in the Competition.

That’s not happening anyway till at least two weeks into August, so we’d wait. But then again, there’s no rocket science to football. We can only go through when we put in the required effort and discipline off and on the pitch. Call it Sousse 2.0. Well, more on that in the days ahead.

Yesterday, Coach Salisu Yusuf released his final team for the Spain tour and quite a number of our stars made the cut. Safe hands Theo, Chima Akas, Joseph Osadiaye, Ezekiel Bassey and the duo of Chinedu Udoji and Dare Ojo made the cut. Even though it emerged later that the last two are on standby.

The League Management Company (LMC) has meanwhile announced that the Enyimba players in the All-star team would travel directly from the tour to Egypt for their CAF Champions League fixture against Zamalek.

The League boss Shehu Dikko disclosed this and explained that “it is to ensure that the country’s remaining representative in the competition have the full compliment of their best players in this crucial encounter”.

Sounds good to me. We play Rangers tomorrow and as always there’s a preview for you just about after the first cock crow.

Finally, ThatEnyimbaFan is recruiting. You think you can write, we’d ‘pummel’ you through the training required and then you’d ready to go. The pay is decent too. If you’re interested, send us an email via

That’s all I can do here this morning. Back and better tomorrow morning.
