Match Preview: Plateau United vs Enyimba

Good morning Brethren.

The anticipated visit of the FIFA President tomorrow means that League games originally scheduled for Sunday would be played today. That’s the little mystery surrounding today’s League fixtures. Clear?

***New info. The games that would be played on Saturday are matches outside Lagos and Jos. Since ours falls within that category, we would be playing tomorrow Sunday not today.

For us, our test is against a relegation threatened Plateau United. As one of the newly promoted sides last season, it’s been a tough season for my friend and Enyimba’s former gaffer Zachary Baraje.

His poorly assembled side struggled for consistency in the first half of the season. I saw them play Akwa United in Uyo and I saw them lose to us in Umuahia. One thing was easily noticeable of the side. They are a good ball playing side. And in those games, their inexperience cost them.

But with the second half of the season, they beefed up and boy do they look a decent lot. Most notable is their shocking result a few weeks ago where they beat Abia Warriors in Umuahia. If you are a follower of the League, you’d know away wins in the second half of the season are as difficult as passing a Nama thru the eye of a needle.

One of their key signings this second half of the season, Danladi Isah former beach soccer goalkeeper has been instrumental toward their fight for survival and you’d think he would roll up his sleeves ready for business against us. So we have it all to do against a side that are not only strong at home but battling relegation also.

For us, we don’t look too far away from the fact that with the impending fixtures, we need one or two away wins. We have, on this blog analyzed what our run-in looks like and to win the Championship this year, we would need to make up for the fact that we won’t be playing the last game of the season.

Hence an away win has become expedient. I trust that we would win our remaining home games, but so also would Rangers, Wikki, and Rivers United. In other words, we need to draw water out of the stone if we long to topple them. Plateau United should be a good opportunity.

With selections, the gaffer has a thousand and one decisions to make. Most likely, Ocheje continues in goal. But what happens in Central defense? Thankgod Ike and Uche John kept a clean sheet against J Atete but can they be let to continue, With Udoji on the bench yet again?

Nzube got injured in midweek, so does that mean Ibenegbu + Kester or Razak + Kester? On the flanks, you’ll think Etor and Osadiaye would continue and up top, it’s about who pairs Chukwude. It was Pyagbara vs Pillars and Peter vs J Atete. There also are the likes of Leonard, Obiozor, Abu Azeez and Najare. All likely candidates.I don’t want to be Paul Aigbogun on Matchdays.

In the words of Jesus, I send you like Sheep among Wolves. We are in for a tough game tonight but there’s absolutely nothing that says we cannot get ourselves something in the bag in this tie.

As always, defensive lapses must be avoided and potency in front of goal expedient. If we are more focused on our own season’s objectives, we can find the resources to get what we want in this tie.

Let’s hope we are all committed to the same outcome.

Back (Monday) with good news hopefully.

PS. Yet to find someone to do our live tweets for us. If and when we do, we would send updates… If not, we’d rely on the good guys at @LMCNPFL.

  1. I’m confused. I read that the match is taking place tomorrow. Now you said it’s today. I’m in Jos right now and I want to go to the stadium to watch us beat plateau Utd.
When is the match taking place?
