Good morning All.
It’s June! Happy New Month.
I think June is the month that sticks out that a headline saying, ‘the year is gone half-way’. So if you haven’t done anything about those goals and dreams and plans you scripted down at the start of the year, it’s time to revisit your diary (or whatever you wrote your goals on). Thing is, before long it would be August and then the ‘mber’ months and then Christmas and Happy New Year again.
Anyway, that’s that on that. Today we are onto the pitch yet again for another game as we try to gulp down our rescheduled fixtures. It’s a tricky one against an opposition that is stout and solid at home and one that currently houses the League’s top marksman, Wikki Tourists of Bauchi.
The tourists are led by our former gaffer and one of the best of the local coaches in the country, Coach Abdu Makaiba. The first time I spoke with him, I was shocked at how Intelligent he was. Shocked in that, I basically talk with local coaches all the time but very few can match his depth in the game.
His knowledge and excellent communication caught my attention and he immediately won some extra layers of respect from me. Beyond just being a sound talker and one with indepth knowledge of the game, he has been able to get his side reproducing all of that on the pitch when they line up for action. Like the captain of a troop, he stands on the sidelines, rarely barking instructions but leaving his wards in no doubt as to what they should do at every turn.
Last season, they narrowly missed out a place in the Continent. And you would look at their inexperience as their downfall that time. This season however, they seem to have resumed from where they stopped the previous one and are not far away from the top of the pile. Striker Godwin Obaje is scoring for fun this season and he tops the goalscoring chat, attracting interests from suitors who feel they could make do with his services.
This means we are in no doubts as to the quality of the opposition before us this evening. We are on a good run, unbeaten in nine and just one point off the top with a game in hand. A win this evening as uphill as that sounds would take us top of the log for the first time this season. It would also mean we stretch into a new territory of unbeaten run. Ten on a trot that is. That would be something wouldn’t it?
Last season we grounded out a goalless draw in what I think was one of best defensive performances and some of that would surely come in handy this evening. The team keeps getting better by the day, improving in understanding and trust for each other but this would be the most severe of tests in recent times. How would we fare?
Quality wise we are capable of leaving Bauchi with a good result but it will require a determined and focused performance. Our organization, discipline and ability to take our chances will determine what happens to our points tally by 6:30pm.this evening. Let’s hope we are up for it.
An inability to find someone in Bauchi to give us updates mean we might have to depend solely on the LMC tweets. So we’ll join them on Facebook and Twitter for that.
All the best to the lads.
Back here tomorrow with good news I hope.
